Happy Friday Wolf and Friends! For this week's #experttipoftheweek, let’s talk crawling/creeping. Why is it so Important for Babies to Learn how to Crawl? Crawling is the very first independent movement milestone in child development. It allows for babies to gain the strength and stability needed for future gross motor activities involving the trunk, arms and legs. Babies typically begin to crawl between 6-9 months of age. Benefits of Crawling: • Crossing Midline- the ability to move our arms and legs across our bodies to perform a task. It encourages the right and left side of the body to communicate. • Sensory, Vestibular and Visual input- provides input to the five senses and helps them work together. • Depth Perception- promotes safety and body in space awareness Encouraging your Baby to Crawl • Lots of tummy time! • Extra motivation! Place favorite toys out of their reach. • Encourage baby to reach while in a seated position to leave their base of support • Get on the floor and crawl with your baby- imitation is key
